Our Story

The family and movement behind Provenance Wine

It all started with a passion for italian wine

 

Our mission at Provenance is to sustain growers’ passion for what they do and bring their expertise into people’s everyday life. At Provenance we believe the way wine is made is a key part of the experience, that is why we work with producers of natural, organic and biodynamic wines.

These producers have great respect for their land and their wines represent the region’s diversity of terroir, culture and winemaking tradition. We tell their story, their provenance.

The business was started in 2016 by Ben Leonard & Giacomo Brunelli to share with their UK friends and family the produce of the small, independent winemakers who they have got to know well. In 2018, Louise Deegan-Riley joined along with three young Leonard-Rileys to make it a family affair.

ABOUT NATURAL, ORGANIC & BIODYNAMIC WINE

Natural wine is made without use of chemicals and minimum intervention in the vineyard and the cellar, being produced without adding or removing anything during the winemaking process.

Organic wine is produced from organically grown grapes, while biodynamic wine is a type of organic viticulture that uses special preparations of herbal sprays or compost, timing interventions according to the lunar calendar.

Biodynamic winemakers often live and work in a farm together with animals and friut trees, looking at their land as a complete living ecosystem.
